Community-based mangrove management and poverty alleviation in SW Madagascar

Honko Mangrove Conservation and Education

Honko means mangroves in Malagasy. Reversing the degradation and preventing further loss of mangrove forest ecosystems in southwest Madagascar is the focus of this organisation.

Honko is a Belgian registered charity working in partnership with coastal communities to improve local living standards and quality of life in positive coexistence with the fragile and unique local environment. Honko pursues this through the promotion of community-based natural resource management and the development of alternative livelihoods.

We are dedicated to develop a truly locally sustainably managed coastal area that can easily be replicated to other areas within the region.
